desperately seeking...

Motivation!!
Pre-pregnancy I had the drive, motivation and desire to stay in the "Zone" and actively made Crossfit part of my everyday life. But these days, it seems like the only motivation I have is to EAT!!
So how do I get it back? A thorough cupboard cleaning? No more dining out? ??????
The most important job I have at this point in my life is being the best host to the little guy I have growing inside me. Which means feeding him the best foods, keeping active and staying positive.
So here comes a new leaf folks, starting today I will be doing just that!!
Crossfit 3 days a week, something active the other 4 days a week and eating better....
at least until that Girl Scout cookie order arrives!

on the road again....

I must admit this week of "taking it easy" was a lot easier than I expected- haha!!
I love being active and getting into the box (Crossfit East Sac!) but there is something to be said about just hanging out, taking walks and enjoying life with my wonderful husband.
This morning I went for a walk/jog with Claire and it was nice to be out and moving again.
I had a little cramping with the jogging, which made me have to back off a little, but overall it went well. The little guy has been more active since we got home- I'm guessing he enjoyed the increased flow of oxygen.

Now for a little pre-natal yoga and then off to work we go!! I must say, life is amazing....

House Update

The house remodel is slowly- but steadily- coming along.
Doug installed a new side door (from the kitchen to the driveway) and is nearly done with trim in the house. It is amazing how much he can do!!!
We also had a surprise expenditure when our heater died a couple nights ago-- goodbye $$$$.
The nursery still remains empty with only a dresser and many boxes!!

I've found the ONE- our Midwife that is!

Today we saw yet ANOTHER midwife- I think this makes it our 5th??
Her name was Susan Stone, CNM and she was AMAZING!!
She made me feel totally at ease with all of my questions and was incredibly easy to talk to.  Needless to say, I've rescheduled all of our future appointments with her- and will be crossing my fingers that she is on the night or day we deliver (I am currently leaning towards Kaiser Roseville).
All went well at our appointment- and for the FIRST time I was told I was "right on track with weight gain". Hooray!!

M.A.E. Reunited!

After nearly 5 years of not seeing each other Marianne, Ellen and I have rekindled our friendship. Throughout nursing school we were the best of friends but life, work and LIFE got in the way-- but we have found our way back!! Feb 1st we met up at the Old Spaghetti Factory for lunch with the "boys".... Marianne's little one: Mason (16 weeks), Ellen's little one: Miles (1 Month!) and my little one: "Scoot" (still remaining un-named @ 20 weeks gestation). It has been wonderful to have these two as my support throughout the pregnancy ups and downs. I am so thankful to have these ladies in my life!! And it's hard to believe, but our 3 little boys will all be born within a year of each other-- can anyone say Best Friends? :)

all is well....

Today was my appointment with the Perinatologist @ Kaiser Roseville. She said that my cervix length was "ok" and that the ultrasound may have been over-read. Good news!!!!
We are still slightly borderline in length and will just have periodic follow-up for the remainder of our pregnancy. For now, I just need to take it easy and see how things go.... I'll be a happy incubator for hopefully another 5 months!!

To blog or not to blog?

There are certain topics that make you question whether to keep them private or public. This is one of those.... Can you guess which route I'm taking?
Yesterday we were crushed to find out that my cervix is "short". Yes, I said short. Not tall, not lanky, not petite, not plump- but short. In one of my "over-reacting" moments I called the advice nurse because I was having cramping in my lower abdomen. It turns out- it was good that I called!
The OB informed me that my 20 week ultrasound was not all rainbows and butterflies, but that my short cervix could pose risks to our unborn child. Pre-term labor (or labor before 36 weeks gestation) is the number ONE concern. So as for now I am taking it easy. I can feel little "Scooter" moving around inside me- which is very reassuring- but I just want him to stay there!!
Tomorrow, we will go see a perinatologist at Kaiser Roseville and have a repeat ultrasound to measure my cervix again.... so for now I wait. The remainder of our pregnancy will be followed by High Risk OB (and a super paranoid and overly anxious mother- me!)

heart- check. brain- check. penis- check!!

At 10:15am today we had our 20 week ultrasound- and once AGAIN our due date is different. 06.25.11. According to our ultrasound tech who had the personality of say, a hermit crab, everything is looking great! Brain, heart, high posterior placenta, 3 vessel cord, abdominal wall closed with all organs in their appropriate places and the most important- a penis and scrotum!
Doug of course is thrilled to be having a boy- a little fishing buddy!!
Our little guy wasn't very photogenic today and instead decided a little game called "kick the umbilical cord" was more thrilling.  All in all- it is amazing to see the little life growing and changing inside me.
